Love the site! Have used the forums extensively already to find out a lot of information but would love to have a discussion about the issues I'm facing. I have read a lot of the threads about the 690 issues but get lost with all the mumbo jumbo. I have a 2013 ktm duke 690 and love verything about it but the reliability. I’ve noticed that KTM motorcycles frequently developed problems while in storage, as is the case with a few owners I’ve encountered, and with my KTM 790 Duke. Prior to me taking ownership of the bike, my 790 Duke sat for quite a while before got to call my garage its new home. Honda, Honda, Honda. No contest. Check both for recalls, IIRC 2015 was the first year for the KTM 390 and had a bunch of issues but the Honda might not be far behind. Googling Duke 390 reliability should solve this dilemma. The Duke and CB500F are polar opposites for reliability; the Honda will rarely break. Unfortunately, the KTM 390 Adventure did not agree with the latter part, and it felt uncomfortable staying under the 4,000rpm mark. Unlike the 790 series, where the Duke and the Adventure carry a completely different persona when it comes to engine tuning, the 390s do not. What KTM should’ve done is chopped a few BHPs from the top-end for an Curious to see the number and frequency of failures on the 790. I've compiled a list of the most common problems that I've noticed (including ones that I've experienced myself). Feel free to add any other issues in a reply. If you own or owned a 790 and have had ZERO problems, please comment

My problem is that the KTM's seem to have major melt downs and on a more regular basis. Motors letting go and ECU failures are common to KTM's across all their line up.
I test drove the 790 and was impressed with how smooth the power delivery was, but was it TOO smooth? Not enough of a test drive to know, but I'm leaning heavily towards the 790 at this point, given the reported reliability issues with the 690. Would much rather save $5kUS and get the 690 but the 790 might be too nice, and the 690 too unreliable.
The KTM 790 Duke is generally considered to be a reliable motorcycle. Owners of this model often praise its performance, agility, and overall riding experience. However, like with any mechanical product, there is always a chance of encountering some issues.
Yes. Never buy a new bike as your first bike. You're going to drop it at 10mph and instantly burn $3000. yugenotaht-backwards • 6 yr. ago. I bought a new Duke 390 and have not dropped it. Even still I put on frame sliders right away after I bought it just in case.. WinnieDePoop • 6 yr. ago.
